File Size Limit

The limit is the same whether you are on the free plan or on Studio, and it applies everywhere you can upload: the web app, the mobile app and the Canva add-on. Phone photos are comfortably inside it. If a large camera file is rejected, export it as a JPEG at around 2000px on the long edge before uploading, which stays well under the limit without losing detail Lume can use.
What happens after you upload
Every upload is converted to JPEG on the way in, whatever format you sent. That keeps generation predictable and is why a downloaded copy of your original may not match the file type you uploaded. Your generated images are a separate matter and come back as PNG.
Each upload is also wrapped into a product in your library automatically, so you never have to set one up before generating. That is what lets you reuse the same product across many background scenes later, and add extra reference photos of it from different angles to help Lume understand its shape.
Uploads are private to your account and are served through signed URLs rather than public links. Deleting an upload removes it from storage.
Image Quality Tips
Use Good Lighting
Natural daylight or bright indoor lighting. Avoid harsh shadows or dark corners.
Product Should Be Clear & Focused
No blur, no pixelation. Make sure your product is sharp and in focus.
Minimal Background Clutter
Simple background works best. Lume isolates your product and rebuilds the scene automatically, but cleaner = better results.
Product Fills the Frame
Don't leave too much empty space. Product should occupy most of the image.
Straight-On Angle
Eye-level or slightly above works best. Avoid extreme angles or distortion.
What to Avoid
Blurry or Out-of-Focus Images
AI cannot add detail that isn't there
Very Low Resolution
Minimum 800px recommended; smaller images produce poor results
Complex Transparent Items
Glass, water, smoke-challenging for AI to isolate cleanly
Product Too Small in Frame
If product is <20% of image, results may be inconsistent
Heavily Edited or Filtered
Upload original photos-no Instagram filters or heavy edits
